Start Thinking Ahead to 2009!
Posted on Sunday the 8th of June, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Already thinking ahead to 2009? So are we! The 2009 New England Regional Convention will be held in March in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, hosted by the Alpha Xi Theta chapter at Gateway Community College in North Haven, Connecticut.
Rocky Hill is located between Hartford and New Haven, with easy access to all of the cultural offerings of both cities. Local attractions include Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill, the Mark Twain House & Museum and the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, and Yale University in New Haven. Nearby Middletown, home to Wesleyan University, offers all of the amenities of a classic New England college town, including shops, restaurants, and clubs. Convention attendees can also take the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry, the oldest continuously operating ferry in the nation, across the Connecticut River to Glastonbury, which offers upscale dining and shopping.
If your college or organization is thinking about sponsoring part of the convention, please feel free to contact Regional Coordinator Michelle Brinck. Details will be posted here in the coming months.
Awards Ceremony Updates!
Posted on Saturday the 15th of March, 2008 at 10:34 pmAt the 2008 New England Region Awards Ceremony, four new regional officers were elected and a Five Star chapter was named the most distinguished in the region.
Brooke Bohannon of Alpha Iota Nu (Norwalk Community College), the region’s 2007-2008 Central Vice President, was elected as the 2008-2009 Regional President. Gloria Saddler of Beta Eta Phi (Bristol Community College) was elected as the Central Vice President. The new officers will be installed at the close of the convention; more information will be offered soon on how to run for the vacant offices of Northern Vice President and Southern Vice President.
In addition to the elections, the 2008 Regional Awards were handed out. Leading the list is our Most Distinguished Chapter, Alpha Upsilon Omicron of New Hampshire Technical Institute and our 2008 Regional Convention host chapter. This is the second year in a row that Alpha Upsilon Omicron was named the region’s most outstanding chapter, both years under 2007 International Distinguished Chapter President Leeann Pierce.

Deadline Approaching for Running for Regional Office
Posted on Wednesday the 20th of February, 2008 at 9:02 amPlease remember that candidates for regional office must submit all of their application materials by March 1 – absolutely no applications will be accepted after that, nor will candidates be accepted from the floor at convention.
Aside from the international officer positions, being a regional officer is the highest level of leadership that can be reached by Phi Theta Kappa members. New regional officers will be provided with extensive training in order to prepare them for their roles. Duties of regional officers vary by position and can be adjusted to fit the needs of each officer group.
For information on running for regional office, please consult the packet and application.
Transfer Fair Spots Filling Quickly
Posted on Friday the 8th of February, 2008 at 6:07 pm
More than 20 senior institutions have signed on to sponsor the New England Regional Transfer Fair at the Regional Convention on March 15, 2008 in Nashua, New Hampshire. Sponsors attending the fair in search of high-credential Phi Theta Kappa applicants include both public and private institutions from all across the United States. We are especially pleased to welcome back Manhattanville College of Purchase, New York as a Platinum Sponsor.
As a reminder, only 35 tables will be made available at the transfer fair, so senior institutions are encouraged to register as soon as possible. For complete information on how to sponsor the transfer fair, see the “Sponsorship” page. Please remember that you can participate in the fair without being present at the convention.

We hope that all participants have a chance to explore Greater Nashua during their stay, perhaps by walking along the Nashua River Rail Trail or by visiting America’s Stonehenge. For more ideas about what to do during your free time, see our updated “Hotel & Area” page.
Finally, our very generous host chapter, Alpha Upsilon Omicron from the New Hampshire Technical Institute in nearby Concord, is hard at work with convention planning. They are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the convention, so be sure to register today!
